But in the context of prescribing GLP-1 medications — drugs that affect your metabolic system, thyroid, pancreas, kidneys, and gallbladder — skipping lab work isn't just cutting a corner. It's removing a safety check that exists for specific clinical reasons.

What Labs Should Be Run (and Why)

A comprehensive pre-treatment lab panel for GLP-1 medications typically includes:

• Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP): Checks kidney function (BUN, creatinine), liver enzymes, and blood glucose. GLP-1s are processed by the kidneys — impaired kidney function changes how the drug is metabolized.
