Inside 5 GLP-1 Telehealth Intake Flows: What Happens After You Click Start

Published May 7, 2026 · The Telehealth Watchdog

What actually happens after you click "Get Started" on a GLP-1 telehealth website? The experience varies dramatically between providers — from thorough medical evaluations to what amounts to a checkout page with a medical questionnaire attached.

We walked through the intake process at five GLP-1 telehealth platforms in April 2026 to compare what happens at each step. Here's what we found.

What We Looked For We evaluated each intake on five criteria: how many medical questions they asked, whether they screened for GLP-1 contraindications (thyroid cancer, pancreatitis, MEN2), whether they asked about current medications, at what point they collected payment information, and how long the process took from start to finish.

The Intake Spectrum

GLP-1 telehealth intakes generally fall on a spectrum from minimal to comprehensive:

Minimal intakes (5–8 questions) collect basic demographics, BMI data, and a generic allergy question before moving to payment. These are fast — often under 3 minutes — but they skip critical safety screening. If a provider doesn't ask about thyroid cancer history before prescribing a GLP-1, they're cutting a corner that could endanger you.

Standard intakes (15–25 questions) cover medical history, current medications, contraindication screening, and previous weight loss attempts. They typically take 8–15 minutes and represent the minimum we'd consider adequate for responsible prescribing.

Comprehensive intakes (25+ questions, sometimes with follow-up) include everything in the standard intake plus lifestyle assessment, mental health screening, dietary patterns, and detailed medication timing questions. Some follow up through a messaging platform before making a prescribing decision. These take 15–30 minutes but provide the most thorough clinical foundation.

What the Best Intakes Have in Common

Signs of a Thorough Intake The top-performing providers shared these traits: they asked about thyroid cancer type and family history before discussing medication options; they specifically asked about pancreatitis history; they requested a current medication list with dosages; they asked about pregnancy status or plans; and they collected payment after — not before — a clinician reviewed the intake. These aren't optional extras. They're minimum standards for safe GLP-1 prescribing.

Payment Timing: A Key Differentiator

Perhaps the most revealing difference between providers is when they ask for your credit card. The best providers collect medical information first, have a clinician review it, and then request payment only after determining you're eligible. The worst collect payment on the first or second screen, before asking a single medical question.

Why does this matter? Because once payment is collected, the incentive structure shifts. A provider who already has your money has less motivation to deny a prescription — even if your medical history raises concerns.

The Checklist

Before completing any GLP-1 telehealth intake, confirm that the process includes these minimum elements:

  1. Screening for medullary thyroid carcinoma and MEN2 family history
  2. Question about pancreatitis history
  3. Full current medication list (not just "any allergies?")
  4. Pregnancy status or plans
  5. Previous GLP-1 use and dose history
  6. Payment collected after clinical review, not before

If the intake you're completing skips any of these, consider whether that provider is prioritizing your safety or their conversion rate.
